Questions from foreign clients

Can I have the consultation in English?

Yes. You can talk to the lawyer in English, at the office or online. Most of the information on this website is in Romanian; the pages in English give you the essentials and the contact details.

Do I need to speak Romanian to go to court in Romania?

No, but proceedings in Romania are conducted in Romanian and applications are drafted in Romanian. In civil cases, a foreign citizen who does not understand Romanian can take part through an authorised translator; in criminal cases, an interpreter is provided free of charge.

My documents are in another language. What do I need?

Documents in a foreign language are filed in court with a certified copy and a legalised translation made by an authorised translator. We tell you from the start which documents need to be translated.

Is what I tell the lawyer confidential?

Yes. Everything you tell us is covered by the lawyer’s professional secrecy, whether we talk at the office, by phone or online.
